Search for missing Carnival Spirit couple cancelled

The search for a couple fell overboard from a cruise ship off the coast of Forster, New South Wales, Australia on Wednesday evening has been cancelled as they are presumed dead after having been in the water for more than 48 hours. The couple was on a 10-day cruise during which they visited Fiji and New Zealand before returning to Sydney on Thursday.
They were discovered missing when the ship docked in Sydney on Thursday morning when they failed to collect their luggage. It was reported that CCTV footage provided by the cruise ship depicted the couple went into the water one after another. However, police say the footage alone is not enough to determine the cause.
The luxury cruiser Carnival Spirit is operated by Carnival Corp, which has been involved in a series high-profile problems in recent years, including the incident of the Costa Concordia, another one of its ships, during which 32 people were killed last year.
