Texas Governor Rick Perry has made his views against homosexuality quite well known over the years, but a recent comment gave even his supporters a bit of a shock.

In an address to The Commonwealth Club of California at a San Francisco hotel, Perry compared homosexuality to alcoholism.

Reportedly the room, which was occupied with many who generally believe in Perry, became instantly filled with gasps, murmurs and other sounds conveying disbelief.

Perry’s comment was in response to the question of if he believed homosexuality was a disorder.

That night he was also asked if he thought it could be cured through prayer and therapy, as the Republican Party in his state recently ratified a platform endorsing such measures.

To that he commented, "I don't know. I am not a psychiatrist. I am not a doctor." [Via ABC]
