Sting joins the cast of his Broadway musical "The Last Ship"

He's one of the biggest names in music.

But conquering the world of theatre has proved much more difficult for the famous Englishman in New York.

Sting's deeply personal Broadway production, "The Last Ship", is struggling.

And now he's joined the cast himself to try and help keep the show afloat.

SOUNDBITE: Entertainer, Sting, saying (English):

"Whenever people come here they are swept away by it. I mean, we win in the theater every night. And so we need to reach a tipping point of that word of mouth, which is great. If enough people will see it then we're home and dry. You know, so, we just have to hope that happens."

The semi-autobiographical tale revolves around a young man who leaves behind a working class English town, where ship building is dying, to seek a better life.

Sting's set to play the cynical foreman of the struggling shipyard - a part that had been played by close friend, British actor Jimmy Nail.
