1940 ARISTOCRATS OF FASHION - WOMEN'S DRESSES

Color promotional film, sponsored by the American Bemberg Corporation, showing the latest fashionable dress styles made from the miracle fabric, rayon.

Per Wikipedia: "Rayon is a manufactured regenerated cellulose fiber. It is made from purified cellulose, primarily from wood pulp, which is chemically converted into a soluble compound. It is then dissolved and forced through a spinneret to produce filaments which are chemically solidified, resulting in synthetic fibers of nearly pure cellulose. Because rayon is manufactured from naturally occurring polymers, it is considered a semi-synthetic fiber."

The blonde actress seen in at the beginning on the phone and in much of the footage I Dorothy Fay. She married western singer/actor Tex Ritter on June 14, 1941; the marriage ended at his death January 2, 1974. They had two sons, Thomas and John, a well known comedic actor. Among her grandchildren is actor Jason Ritter.
