He's got the whole world in his hands - Chris Lawton at Epiphany Church, Oxley, Wolverhampton

Me playing the organ at Church of the Epiphany in the Oxley area of Wolverhampton, West Midlands.

The organ here is not the usual church instrument! It was originally built by the John Compton Organ Company Ltd in 1930 for the Windsor Cinema in Bearwood, Birmingham and had 9 ranks of pipes. In 1960 it was removed from the cinema and installed here minus the Vox Humana rank and the percussions and novelty effects. Some modifications were also made to the console. The pipework is installed in 2 fully enclosed chambers which speak through grilles either side of the communion area. The specification now reads:

For this first video im playing the lively hymn 'He's got the whole world in his hands' which makes use of the distinctive Compton Tuba stop as well as pulling out some of the cinema sounds.

Many thanks to the officials of Church of the Epiphany for allowing me access to this wonderful Compton organ.

NOTE: this is purely my interest in order to make sure that these fine organs are archived forever and I do not make any monetary profit by this video being on dailymotion.
